Senior Fellow Ashley McGuire weighed in on the life issue from a different angle in a piece for USA TODAY on the resignation of New York governor Andrew Cuomo following numerous accusations of sexual harassment. “The unborn, the elderly and women – depend on the powerful to use their strength to protect,” Ashley wrote. “Cuomo failed them all.” She highlighted the former governor’s extreme stance on abortion, which he made a central part of his political platform. “To deny the humanity of pre-born life is to deny truth,” she said.
Ashley also addressed the need for a new understanding of women’s rights that is not premised on abortion in a televised panel hosted by The Catholic Information Center. The event focused on “an original look at the development of feminism in the United States and…a philosophical and legal framework for rights grounded in our responsibilities.”
