On October 26th, Justice Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed to the United States Supreme Court. She is now the sixth practicing Catholic justice of the Supreme Court, joining such reputable names as Chief Justice John Roberts, and Justices Thomas, Samuel Alito, Sonia Sotomayor, and Brett Kavanaugh. Barrett and Sotomayor are also two of the only female Catholic Supreme Court Justices in history.
The road to this moment hasn’t been easy for Barrett, as she had faced much media and Democratic lawmaker criticism due to her religious beliefs and family. However, many showed support for Justice Barrett, who has overcome much adversity and has demonstrated for many years that she is able to handle the responsibilities of her work life while still able to act as a caring and loving wife and mother for her family.
As Dr. Grazie Christie, policy advisor for The Catholic Association, states:
“Judge Barrett has demonstrated that she will equally apply the law to everyone who comes before her and faithfully interpret the Constitution as written. Her profound knowledge of the law is only matched by her exemplary character.”
Dr. Christie has also called Judge Barrett a “role model for women and girls who aspire to reach the highest levels of accomplishment.”
