Mary FioRito on Why Notre Dame’s Reversal Matters for Catholic Identity

“Professor Susan Ostermann’s decision not to accept the position of Director at the University of Notre Dame’s Liu Center is a win for consistency, clarity, and common sense. As an explicitly Catholic university, Notre Dame owes its students and faculty “truth in advertising.” Ostermann’s public advocacy of legal abortion would have overshadowed the good work of the Liu Center and significantly hampered its ability to form students.

“Congratulations to the alumni, students, faculty and staff who addressed this issue using prayer and the power of persuasion, and to Bishop Kevin Rhoades and those bishops who joined him in issuing public statements opposing the appointment.”
