Catholic Leader and Religious Liberty Advocate Takes on Key Vatican Role

We offer our heartfelt congratulations to Montse Alvarado on her appointment to serve as Prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication.

Montse is supremely qualified for the job, having run the largest religious media network in the world as well as the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. In her time at both institutions, she grew their presence and impact while remaining true to their missions.

Montse’s historic appointment as the first laywoman to lead a dicastery signals the growing recognition of women’s gifts and leadership in service to the Church. And as a multilingual American, she embodies the particularly exciting moment the Church in America is experiencing.

Montse is known and loved for her joyful charisma and her boundless energy, but most importantly, for her profound love for Christ and the Church. We are excited to see what her talents will bring in this next phase of communications for the Holy Father and the Catholic Church. And we pray that the Holy Spirit will guide her as she takes on this critical role in service of the new evangelization.
