Five Justices including Justice Kennedy decided that Texas’ HB2 would lead to the closure of abortion shops and it would have. Planned Parenthood already adheres to these reasonable regulations but the centers that endanger women with inadequate facilities and doctors who can’t get admitting privileges would have closed. Today, those five Justices have made sure that back alley abortion shops are safe and that they can continue to put profit before the safety and well-being of women whose despair affords them their lucre.”

This case was about sensible laws designed to protect women in the wake of the Gosnell horrors; it should have been common ground for both sides of the issue. It’s a stunning disappointment that even protecting women through laws enacted by the American people’s elected representatives, laws designed off of safety protections that Planned Parenthood implements in its own clinics, are considered out of bounds by the Supreme Court. Pro-lifers have had more than 40 years of disappointment at the Supreme Court, but it hasn’t slowed us down. This ruling won’t stop us from continuing to work to protect all American lives, and we won’t stop until we’ve won.
