TCA Urges Defense of Free Speech and Parental Rights in Chiles v. Salazar Case
Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Chiles v. Salazar. The case contends that Colorado’s counseling censorship law violates freedom of speech by prohibiting certain private client-counselor conversations regarding gender identity.
Ashley McGuire of the Catholic Association released this statement on the case.
“The Supreme Court should stand for children, parental rights, and free speech by striking down Colorado’s harsh and dangerous law enforcing radical gender ideology on suffering children. Coercing child therapists to uniformly promote gender transitioning among minors violates the dignity of children, the rights of their parents, and the first amendment rights of therapists. Gagging therapists in the most difficult and delicate of cases endangers the mental health of vulnerable children. Children experiencing gender dysphoria deserve the compassionate care of a medical industry that ultimately seeks to advance the wellbeing and health of the child, not to blindly advance an ideological agenda at their detriment.”
