A year and half into his papacy, Pope Francis has overhauled the Vatican’s financial practices, curbed the powers of its secretary of state and made other notable changes to the inner workings of the Roman Catholic Church. Now, many both within and outside of the church community are wondering whether Francis will rein in the ongoing Vatican inquiry into the group representing more than three-quarters of American nuns, as the church official leading the effort defended the investigation in comments published last week.
