On April 3, The Catholic Association, in conjunction with Baltimore attorney Jack Terziu, filed its first-ever friend of the court brief in the case of Greater Baltimore Center for Pregnancy Concerns v. Mayor and City Council of Baltimore. At the crux of the case is whether or not the government can force a pregnancy center that does not perform abortions to promote pro-abortion messages which fundamentally conflict with their mission and beliefs. Increasingly, the pro-choice lobby is targeting women’s health centers that do not perform or refer abortions and trying to force them to post signs or offer counseling that would steer women towards abortion. This is a blatant attack on the free speech rights of these centers, as well as a deceptive way to manipulate women who are in crisis and seeking true choice. Under the guidance of our new legal advisor, Andrea Picciotti-Bayer and in collaboration with local attorney Jack Terziu, TCA was able to file its first-ever amicus brief on behalf of the countless women who have benefitted greatly from the services offered at the Center.
