TCA Commends Court Ruling to Uphold Abortion Drugs Protection for Women
“The Fourth Circuit’s ruling on abortion drugs is a welcome victory for the safety of girls and women and for the rights of states to protect them. The FDA and the Biden administration wrongfully removed common sense safety measures for abortion drugs such as screening and monitoring by doctors for life-threatening conditions and complications. With virtually no guardrails left around these powerful drugs, women, or men seeking to exploit them, can easily access the drug and take it with zero medical supervision at any stage of pregnancy. Studies have shown that the abortion drug is significantly more dangerous than a surgical abortion and causes far more complications than its FDA label warns. This ruling gives states the power to protect the safety of its women and girls where the federal government has failed.”

“I applaud West Virginia for enacting and defending strong protections for women and their unborn children and the 4th Circuit’s affirmation of my home state’s right and responsibility to protect vulnerable women from dangerous, deregulated abortion drugs that the FDA has recklessly stripped of any meaningful health and safety guardrails. The FDA has failed women so badly that these drugs are accessible with virtually no medical oversight and even by mail order. West Virginia’s decision to stand up for women is so critical. It is often when they are experiencing a moment of desperation that women are inundated with false and misleading abortion industry claims that these drugs are safe, but there is alarming, and growing, evidence to the contrary along with a steady stream of reports of women seriously harmed or killed by these drugs.”
